This Adjustable +Voltage Power Supply Project Kit is designed around the TL431 Shunt Regulator. This kit is a linear, step-down AC-to-DC converter. It can also be used as a DC-to-DC step down converter equally as well. This power supply will convert an AC input to a DC output voltage of your desire. The circuit consists of a 1.5 Amp full-wave Bridge Rectifer, a high capacitance ripple-filter Capacitor, a high-current Pass Transistor controlled by a TL431 Shunt Regulator and the necessary resistors and capacitors to make it work. It even includes an LED to let you know when power is available at the output. There are extra resistor values so you can experiment with the kit.
This kit consists of the PCB, Schematics, and parts required to build a 1-amp (or more), highly regulated Adjustable DC Power Supply. It requires an input AC or DC voltage source (3 V to 24V) from a transformer, such as a wall-mount type. A heat sink (not supplied) may be needed for the Pass Transistor, depending on your application. You will need the soldering tools and basic soldering skills.
The output voltage is varied with a potentiometer and is very steady and accurate even while the input voltage varies. The output can be varied from 4.00 VDC to 24 VDC depending on the input voltage. The Application Note for the TL431 is available on the web so that you can design your own power supply. This circuit is perfect for those that want their own small but powerful power supply. It can be used on the bench or as part of your project. It is small enough to fit in robotic vehicles and such. The PCB is 1.1" x 2.1", double-sided, and has 4 mounting holes. This is an excellent chance to build your own Power Supply.
