The head of this fine instrument is provided with a precision ground and hardened spindle and lead screw with a 1/2 inch run. Seven easily interchangeable rods with hardened anvils in one end are provided. These anvils are adjustable to compensate for the slightest wear. The shanks of the rods are slipped directly into the end of the spindle until the collar comes to a positive seat. This contact can be easily kept free from dirt or dust and is a valuable feature fo rthat reason. The rods are locked by tightening the knurled chuck nut. Two hardened steel collars, exactly 1/2 and 1 inch in length, that slip over the shanks of the rods are provided and are used in various combinations. Two sets of graduations are provided on the barrel so that direct readings can always be made no matter what combination of rods and collars are in use.
