The Amigo SCA subcarrier generator employs advanced concepts to generate the SCA subcarrier. The frequency-locked digital design ensures superior carrier frequency stability while providing linear modulation characteristics. The Amigo SCA handles any type of data or audio application. Integral dual-band audio limiting provides consistent full modulation for music or voice applications. Precise non-overshooting filters ensure a clean spectral output, effectively protecting the L+R main channel and L-R stereo subchannel.
The superior performance of the Amigo SCA starts with CRL’s time-tested audio processing. The input feeds a low distortion dual band audio limiter, which allows clear sound and consistently high modulation levels for best subcarrier coverage. Optional low frequency roll-off and audio "presence" jumpers allow you to tailor audio frequency response for individual tastes. For applications requiring gain leveling, we recommend using CRL's Amigo Studio M before the Amigo SCA.
Precise data transmissions require a direct connection to the subcarrier modulator. The Amigo SCA offers two direct data input ports via rear mounted RS-232 and BNC connectors. Front-panel-mounted controls separately adjust these input levels.
The heart of the Amigo SCA is its digitally-synthesized subcarrier generator. This time and frequency stable design can handle any type of audio or data transmission used on SCA subcarriers today. A patented overshoot-corrected lowpass filter provides exceptional crosstalk suppression between main, sub and SCA subcarriers. The subcarrier frequency and deviation level of the unit are easily changed in the field. Deviation level is controlled by a front panel mounted control and is monitored by a front panel Peak Modulation indicator. The subcarrier injection level is adjusted via a front panel mounted control.
The Amigo SCA has three modes of operation.
First, the unit can be set for subcarrier “ON†operation. In this mode, there is always a subcarrier output.
The second mode is “AUTO,†which causes the subcarrier to be turned on when program material is supplied to the unit. After program material is removed, the subcarrier will mute after a preset time. The delay time and mute level functions are adjusted on the unit's front panel.
The third mode allows the subcarrier to be turned on and off via rear panel contact closures. This carrier on/off control is smooth and pop-free.
