The Weller TCP station series utilizes a closed loop method (1950 patent) of controlling maximum tip temperature to protect temperature sensitive components. A ferromagnetic temperature sensor working with the "PT" tips controls the tip temperature - no electronic or external adjustments are required or necessary. Provides process termperature control in a simple design. Select soldering tip temperature simply by changing the heat-sensing soldering tip. A magnetic contact switch and closed loop low voltage circuit control power output to the soldering iron and the tip temperature. Features include a blue static dissipative case and handle to provide ESD protection, a lightweight soldering pencil with built-in heat shield fitted with a PTA7 700°F screwdriver solder tip, a non-burnable silicone rubber cord, and a non-heatsinking iron holder with sponge. UL listed. Uses PT series tips.
When the soldering tip is cold, a ferromagnetic temperature sensor attached to the tip attracts a permanent magnet. The magnet movement causes a shorting bar to make contact with a set of isolated electrical contacts therby supplying power to the heating element through solder lugs. When the tip reaches its idle temperature, the sensor becomes nonmagnetic and no longer attracts the magnet. Then a magnetic bushing attracts the magnet causing the shorting bar to break the circuit. In this manner, power to the heating element is turned on and off automatically.
